Opal Sunn, the live unit that’s been highly regarded by Andrew Weatherall and Nick Höppner will perform at Omotesando VENT on October 19th!

Only a few months after their much talked about performance at this year’s Rainbow Disco Club, live unit from Berlin, Opal Sunn, make their way back to Japan to play at VENT! This is their first time at VENT and it comes on the back of a much awaited new release, so be sure to come check out this duo that has been subject of much intrigue by many DJs in recent months.

Opal Sunn is comprised of AI Kassian (originally from Kyoto) and Hiroaki OBA (originally from Kawasaki) who first met in Berlin and formed as a duo back in 2015. AI Kassian was active as a DJ and had release works on Paramida’s Love on the Rocks and Alex Bradley’s Utopia Records. He’s also had his hand in creating soundtracks for contemporary dance projects – the diverse range of sounds that he’s created has garnered much acclaim from a wide variety of prominent artists.

Hiroaki OBA was initially active as a bassist in a band here in Tokyo, but went solo back in 2010 and then went to London to join Red Bull Music Academy. Afterwards, he moved yet again to Berlin where he met AI and after many sessions together, they formed Opal Sunn.

With a delicate and sensitive approach to complex and highly assembled soundscapes layered atop dance music, Opal Sunn were able to quickly penetrate and establish themselves within the music scene. Their releases have gained stamps of approval and heavy play by notable DJs like Andrew Weatherall, Laurent Garnier, Nick Höppner, Josh Wink, and DJ Sprinkles. Opal Sunn incorporate a plethora of hardware into their sets, which leads to highly-improvised sets to build upon, then deconstruct, rebuild, and then weave and blend to produce an intense live performance experience!
