鬼才2人によるスペシャル Liveセット！ミニマル・グルーブを軸にしたサイエンス。DeWalta & Shannonが登場

ベルリンで最注目の若手、Dewaltaと、DJの中のDJとして知られているMike ShannonによるユニットDeWalta & Shannonがライブセットで9月20日のVENTに登場！モジュラーによる無駄のないサウンドスケープの中で唸るミニマル・グルーブが生み出す化学反応を超絶ライブセットで披露！

ベルリンで最も注目されている若手の1人、DeWaltaは幼少期にジャズに触れると、Pファンクやヒップホップを取り入れながらその研究を進め、ベルリンにてサクソフォンなど数多くの生楽器を学んだ。ジャズの即興性を基調として伝統的な音楽からの脱却を図り、レコードパラダイスのベルリンという土地性に揉まれながら、2007年にはミニマル・レーベルMeanderを設立。翌年には老舗レーベルVAKANTから代表作の一つ“Salgaro / Farina”をリリースし、その名を知り渡らせた。

一方、DJの中のDJとして知られるMike Shannonはスムーズでディープなトラックから容赦ないテクノへ、悪戯な笑みを浮かべながらフロアを熱狂に包むプレイヤーであり、ギタリストTakeshi NishimotoとシンガーFadilaとのプロジェクトBlue Fieldsでは陶酔的なジャズサウンドを取り入れてきたカナダのエレクトロニック・ミュージックシーンのキーパーソンだ。1999年に立ち上げたレーベルCynosureではAkufen、Deadbeat、Ernesto Ferreryaらをいち早くピックアップするなど、A&Rとしても素晴らしい才能を見せている。プロデューサーとしても、これまでにPlus 8、Force Inc、~Scape等よりシングルやリミックスのリリースを重ねており、今回DeWalta & ShannonとしてVENTに再登場する。

伝統的なミュージシャンとしてのスキルを持ち、フロアを操る科学者のようなバックグラウンドをちらつかせながら、また同時にそれら全てを放棄するかのように、DeWalta & Shannonは圧倒的なサウンドでその実力を明らかにしていく。ジャズ、テクノ、アンビエント……何が起こるかは全く予測不可能だが、彼らの描くサウンドスケープに虜になることは間違いないはずだ。

Get ready for a special live set by this genius duo! Minimal scientists, DeWalta & Shannon will be coming to VENT!

These two young upstarts are getting loads of attention in Berlin – DeWalta and the DJs DJ, Shannon have formed the pair unit, DeWalta & Shannon, and now they will be storming the stage at VENT on September 20th! Clean modular soundscapes that give way to groaning minimal grooves created by chemical reactions is one way to describe this duo’s live sets!

DeWalta, just one of the two young genius who are getting love all around Berlin, got involved with jazz at a very early age; incorporating P-funk and hip hop into research, he learned how to play the sax and other instruments. With improvisational jazz as his core discipline, he sought to break away from traditional music, thus establishing the minimal label Meander in the hustle and bustle of the music paradise that is Berlin, in 2007. The following year, he released what was to be his definitive work, Salgaro/Farina, on the long standing Vakant print.

On the flipside, the DJs DJ, Mike Shannon is well-known for dropping smooth and deep techno yet unrelenting techno on the dance floor at a fever pitch, all the while with a cheeky grin across his face. A key player in the Canadian electronic scene, he’s teamed up with guitarist Takeshi Nishimoto and singer Fadila on the Blue Fields project, incorporating euphoric jazz sounds. He established the label Cynosure in 1999, which quickly picked up acts like Akufen, Deadbeat, and Ernesto Ferrerya – showing that he’s got serious talent when it comes to A&R. As a producer, he released singles and/or remixes for labels like Plus 8, Force Inc., and ~scape. This time around, he’ll be returning to VENT as part of DeWalta & Shannon.

DeWalta & Shannon are both skillful in traditional music, but when it comes to manipulating the dance floor, they are straight up scientists! Jazz, techno, ambient…there’s no way to tell what kind of style will drop. It will be an unpredictable night full of sonic suspense, but one thing is for sure: no doubt you will love it!
